HOST FAMILIES NEEDED!
When players decide to pursue a career independent
baseball, many travel from around the world
to play in the Golden Baseball League. This means
that they are hours away from friends and family
members. For this reason, when they arrive in
Calgary, they look for a touch of home to make them
feel welcome.
One way the community "adopts" the players is by
serving as host families during the season. Families
provide housing, as well as a support system, for
the player(s) they host.
Host Family Responsibilities:
- Provide room and board for the player(s).
- Be understanding of their schedule. (The
Vipers will play 88 games; 44 of those games
will take place in Calgary.
- The players will arrive in Calgary in early
May, and the season will come to an end in
mid-September.)
- Encourage them to participate as members of
their families.
Player Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the rules set forth by the Host
Family
- Participate as a member of the family,
giving the respect/consideration he would give
his own family.
- Provide his own transportation to and from
the ball park.
- Wash/dry his own laundry.
- Pay for his own long distance phone calls.
(Most players have cell phones.)
Host families and players are asked to complete a
questionnaire before they are matched. This enables
us to match a player with the appropriate family. We
do everything we can to ensure a suitable match is
made for both the player and family.
