Nine players were offered
contracts and invitations to
spring training which will
start on May 3rd in the
cities of each of the eight
clubs comprising the oldest
independent league in
existence.
Regular season play
commences on May 17th the
league's 15th season since
its rebirth in 1993 as a
short season independent
league. The Northern League
was founded in 1903.
Seven of the eight clubs
drafted at least 1 player at
the two-day camp which was
held April 3rd and 4th at
the University of South
Florida. The Edmonton
Cracker-Cats and the Kansas
City T-Bones led the way
with two picks each. Joliet,
along with Calgary,
Schaumburg, Winnipeg and
Fargo-Moorhead each selected
1 player with the Vipers
trading their pick, LHP
Jaime Douglas to Fullerton
(Golden League) to complete
an earlier transaction.

The Northern League holds
at least one try out camp
each spring. The site of the
2008 camp has not been
determined. Past sites have
included Orlando, Malibu,
Los Angeles, San Jose,
Peoria, Chandler and Phoenix
amongst other cities across
the United States. Local try
outs are also held and
hosted by most of the clubs
in each league city prior to
the start of the 96 game
regular season.
Fargo-Moorhead is the
defending league champion.
