VIPERS SWEEP WEEKLY AWARDS

Infielder Carlos Duncan and righthander Clint Hosford of the Calgary Vipers are the recipients of the Northern League Rawlings Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards, respectively, for August 28-September 4, 2006, the Northern League office announced Tuesday.

In eight games during the week, Duncan batted .407 (11-for-27) with four doubles and two home runs, and drove in 14 runs. Duncan also stole five bases and scored seven runs. Duncan's 1.278 OPS (.778 slugging percentage, .500 on-base percentage) led all Northern League batters for the week.

Duncan drove in six runs for Calgary in the Vipers 12-3 win over Fargo-Moorhead on August 30, including five in Calgary's 11-run third inning when he hit an RBI-double and a grand slam home run.

Hosford, of Courtenay, BC, went 2-0, 0.54 ERA in four appearances, including one start, during the week. Hosford pitched a total of 16 innings, yielding just two runs (one earned) on 14 hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters.

Hosford took over for starter Evan Greusel in the third inning and pitched the final three innings of Calgary's 12-3 win over Fargo-Moorhead in game two of a doubleheader on August 30, in a game that was shortened to five innings due to rain. Hosford scattered 11 hits in pitching a complete game as the Vipers defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-1 on September 2. Hosford walked one and struck out six.

Hosford's shutout bid ended on Will Smith's ninth inning homer.
