VIPERS SWEEP WEEKLY AWARDS
Infielder Carlos Duncan and
righthander Clint Hosford of the
Calgary Vipers are the
recipients of the Northern
League Rawlings Player and
Pitcher of the Week Awards,
respectively, for August
28-September 4, 2006, the
Northern League office announced
Tuesday.
In eight games during the
week, Duncan batted .407
(11-for-27) with four doubles
and two home runs, and drove in
14 runs. Duncan also stole five
bases and scored seven runs.
Duncan's 1.278 OPS (.778
slugging percentage, .500
on-base percentage) led all
Northern League batters for the
week.
Duncan drove in six runs for
Calgary in the Vipers 12-3 win
over Fargo-Moorhead on August
30, including five in Calgary's
11-run third inning when he hit
an RBI-double and a grand slam
home run.
Hosford, of Courtenay, BC,
went 2-0, 0.54 ERA in four
appearances, including one
start, during the week. Hosford
pitched a total of 16 innings,
yielding just two runs (one
earned) on 14 hits and one walk
while striking out 11 batters.
Hosford took over for starter
Evan Greusel in the third inning
and pitched the final three
innings of Calgary's 12-3 win
over Fargo-Moorhead in game two
of a doubleheader on August 30,
in a game that was shortened to
five innings due to rain.
Hosford scattered 11 hits in
pitching a complete game as the
Vipers defeated the Winnipeg
Goldeyes 4-1 on September 2.
Hosford walked one and struck
out six.
Hosford's shutout bid ended
on Will Smith's ninth inning
homer. |
