The Calgary Vipers swept the
Joliet JackHammers and won
their fourth consecutive
game to open the season at
Silver Cross Field in
Joliet, Illinois. The Vipers
had a 3-0 lead into the
bottom of the eighth when
the Jackhammers erupted for
four runs. Calgary though
came right back scoring two
in the ninth to retake the
lead and win the game. Evan
Greusel was dominating as
per usual going seven
scoreless innings before
running into some trouble in
the eighth inning.
Calgary opened the
scoring in the third inning
when leadoff man Darryl
Brinkley scored on a wild
pitch.
Brinkley was back at it
again in fifth when he hit
the clubs first homerun in
solo style to make it 2-0.
Carlos Duncan then singled
and stole second base before
Drew Miller drove him in for
the team's third run of the
game.
It remained 3-0 until the
bottom of the eighth when
Joliet mounted a comeback
and put four runs on the
board thanks to two
homeruns. Chris Brown lead
off the inning with a
homerun to break up the
Greusel shutout, and then
later Derek Nicholson gave
the JackHammers the lead
with his three run shot off
Ryan Olson.
The Vipers were not down
and out though as they
created a comeback of their
own thanks to the red hot
Duncan who went two-for-four
with two runs and a RBI and
also a game winning hit by
Jason Colson. Brinkley who
went four-for-five with
three runs scored and a RBI
led off the inning with a
single and later scored on a
Duncan RBI double, Colson
then promptly drove in
Duncan to grab the lead.
Olson picked up his first
win on the season while
David Manning picked up his
first save coming in for the
ninth and shutting down his
former team in three
straight batters.
Calgary now heads to
