The Calgary Vipers
were blanked for the
second time this
season 9-0 at the
hands of the Joliet
JackHammers at
Foothills Stadium in
Calgary, Alberta.
Joliet put six runs
up in the first two
innings and never
looked back with
three pitchers
combining for the
shutout on eight
hits against.
In the top of the
first Cory Harris
doubled to left and
after the second out
was retired, Juan
Diaz, Derek
Nicholson, and Tim
Hutting all had runs
batted in to take
the early 3-0 lead.
The JackHammers
doubled their lead
an inning later
thanks in large part
to a misjudged fly
ball by Jorge Tang.
Javier Lopez led off
the inning popping
up into shallow
center field but
Tang was unable to
make the catch and
Lopez ended up with
a triple and scored
on a Chris Brown RBI
groundout. With two
outs Joliet rallied
again as
Harris singled and
Chad Ehrnsberger hammered
a 3-0 fastball over
the left field wall
to make the
score 6-0.
One run was added in
the fifth against
Calgary starter Jeff
Groeger as Nicholson
doubled home
Ehrnsberger pushing
the lead to seven.
The scoring was
capped in the sixth
off Vipers reliever
Ryan Klatt as Brown
was hit by a pitch
and Anthony Monegan
doubled. Harris
followed with a
sacrifice fly and
Ehrnsberger again
doubled to bring
home the ninth run.
Nick Renault tossed
seven innings of
five hit shutout
baseball for the
win, while Kyle
Zaleski and Aaron
Williams pitched the
final two innings to
complete the game.
Ehrnsberger and
Nicholson both had
four hits a piece
and combined to
score three runs and
knock in five.
Calgary's Darryl
Brinkley extended
his hitting streak
to nine games with a
ninth inning single.

teams conclude this
