straight games
after the
latest 9-6
defeat at the
hands of the
Gary SouthShore
RailCats at
Foothills
Stadium in
Calgary,
Alberta.
The loss
completes a
three game sweep
for the RailCats
and finishes off
a seven game
home stand for
the Vipers with
a 1-6 record.
Gary SouthShore
opened the
scoring in the
first inning
with Eric
McNamee and Jay
Pecci reaching
base with a
single and a
double and
scoring on a
Dave Detienne
fielder's choice
and a Steve
Haake sacrifice
fly.
The RailCats
added to the
lead in the
second inning
loading the
bases with one
out for Jay
Pecci who drove
in one with a
sacrifice fly.
Dave Detienne
followed with a
two run triple
to make it 5-0.
In the third
Gary SouthShore
added to the
lead when Jose
Yepez and Mike
Reese were hit
by pitches and
Dale Mueller
smacked a two
run single to
give the
RailCats a seven
run lead.
Calgary got
their first run
in the third as
Darryl Brinkley
hit his second
homerun in as
many nights to
make it 7-1.
The run was
taken right back
by Gary
SouthShore in
the fifth when
Mike Reese
scored on a Nate
Price RBI
triple.
The Snakes
started a
comeback in the
sixth as Jason
Colson hammered
a two run shot
for his third
homerun of the
season.
With the score
8-3 the RailCats
added a run in
the seventh as
Steve Haake
scored on a
Tanner Townsend
double play
groundout.
The game closed
in the bottom of
the seventh with
the Vipers
loading the
bases with none
out due to a
Drew Miller hit,
Jorge Tang hit
by pitch, and
Manabu Kuramochi
single. Brinkley
drove in his
second run of
the night with a
sacrifice fly
and with two out
Carlos
Duncan cashed
home two with a
single to cut
the lead to 9-6.
In the bottom of
the ninth
Calgary down by
three loaded the
bases with three
straight singles
by Tang,
Kuramochi, and
Brinkley. With
the winning run
at the plate
Nelson Castro
popped up to the
catcher and
Duncan grounded
out to the
shortstop to end
the game and
leave the tying
runs on base.
Brinkley went
three-for-four
with two runs
batted in and a
run scored
extending his
hitting streak
to 13 games.
Miller went
two-for-four to
extend his on
base streak to
14 games.
The Snakes are
now 7-7 and tied
for second place
in the North
Division.
The
Vipers now
head out on
the road to
Winnipeg for
a three game
series with
Friday and
Saturday
nights
games being
shown on
Calgary Shaw
TV (Channel
10) starting
at 6:00 PM
MDT.
Calgary
returns home
next Tuesday
for a three
game series
against the
Edmonton
Cracker-Cats
