Darryl
Brinkley,
Jason
Colson, and
Carlos
Duncan had
big nights
at the plate
helping Jeff
Groeger pick
up his third
win with a
7-3 victory
over the
Winnipeg
Goldeyes at
CanWest
Global Park
in Winnipeg,
Manitoba.
Brinkley,
Colson, and
Duncan combined
to go
nine-for-14,
scoring five
runs, and
driving in
five. Groeger
on the other
hand went
six innings,
giving up
two runs and
striking out
six to
improve to
3-1 on the
season. The
win snaps a
five game
losing
streak for
the Vipers
and improves
Calgary to
7-1 on the
road this
season.
In the top
of the first
Brinkley led
off with a
double and
one batter
later Nelson
Castro drove
him in with
a single.
Jason Colson
made it 2-0
in the third
inning with
his fourth
homerun of
the season.
The lead was
cut in half
in the
bottom of
the third
when
Fehlandt
Lentini
walked, took
second on a
wild pitch,
and scored
on a Cameron
Coughlan
single.
Winnipeg
tied the
game in the
fifth when
Lentini
singled,
stole
second, and
again
scored,
this time
on a Jimmy
Hurst
single.
The Vipers
took the
lead back in
the top of
the sixth
when Kevin
Price
walked,
Jorge Tang
singled, and
Manabu
Kuramochi
walked to
load the
bases.
Brinkley
picked up an
RBI on a
fielder's
choice and
with two
outs Castro
hit a
groundball
that Scott
Schade threw
away
allowing
Tang to
score.
Carlos
Duncan
followed
with a
single to
score
Brinkley
making the
score 5-2.
Lentini
scored for a
third time
in the
seventh when
he doubled,
stole third,
and scored
on a Walter
Young
double.
Calgary
added some
insurance in
the eighth
with the top
of the
line-up at
it again.
Brinkley
walked,
Duncan
singled, and
Colson
picked up
his second
and third
runs batted
in on the
night with a
double to
stretch the
lead to four
at 7-3.
Ryan Olson
had a great
outing from
the bullpen
picking up
his first
save of the
season going
two and a
third
innings
giving up
only one
hit, walking
nobody, and
striking out
five of the
eight
batters he
faced.
The
Snakes
are now
8-7
and in
sole
possession
of
second
place in
the
North
