Evan Greusel threw five innings giving up just two runs in the Calgary Vipers 6-2 win over the Edmonton Cracker-Cats at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Greusel walked just one while striking out six and for the first time in four attempts after leaving the game with a lead he picked up the victory. The Vipers offence was sparked by two, clutch, two out hits to help in winning the first half of the double header.
Edmonton grabbed the early lead in the top of the first with a solo homerun by Terrence McClain on the eighth pitch of a great at-bat.
Calgary however responded in the bottom half with two outs as Carlos Duncan singled, Jason Colson walked and Mitch Evans hit a two run triple to give the Vipers the lead.
The Snakes added to the lead in the second inning putting Jorge Tang on with a single and Manabu Kuramochi on with a fielder's choice. Once again with two away Duncan delivered with his first homerun of the season, a monstrous three run blast to left field.
With the score 5-1 Kuramochi walked to lead off the fourth inning, stole second base and was brought home by a Darryl Brinkley RBI single.
The Cracker-Cats added a single in the fifth on a Chris Becker solo homerun to close out the scoring.
David Manning picked up his fourth save of the season coming into the game in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and two out and getting cleanup hitter Kyle Nichols to fly out on the very first pitch.
Brinkley going two-for-four extended his hitting streak to 17 games while Drew Miller extended his on base streak to 18.
Duncan went two-for-three with two runs scored and three runs batted in.
Randy Waite threw an inning and a third giving up only one hit while striking out one.
