The Edmonton Cracker-Cats offence exploded for 11 runs enroot to a 11-4 win over the Calgary Vipers at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The win spilt the double header and season series between the two clubs. Down 8-0 the Vipers tried to fight back getting within four runs but that was as close as they got.
For the second straight game Edmonton opened the scoring when in the second inning Jason Aspito and Sambu Ndungidi had back to back doubles to make it 1-0.
The Cracker-Cats added to the lead in a big way in the fourth when Aspito hit a two run homerun. Ndungidi followed with a single, Rhett Teller doubled, Rob Recuenco walked to load the bases and with two outs Terrence McClain hit a bases clearing double to double the lead to 6-0. The double chased Calgary starter Chris Schutt from the games as he picked up the loss and went three and two third innings giving up seven earned runs on seven hits. McClain came in to score on a Chris Becker single and then Becker completed the seven run inning scoring on a wild pitch pushing the lead to 8-0.
Calgary bounced right back in the bottom of the fourth cutting the lead in half with four runs. Mitch Evans walked, Drew Miller singled, and Kevin Price reached on a E5 to load the bases. Jorge Tang singled to score the first run, Manabu Kuramochi grounded out to score Miller, and then with two outs Darryl Brinkley scored two with a base hit to right field.
The game was put out of reach in the sixth inning when Becker lead off with a double and Kyle Nichols slugged a two run shot to give Edmonton double digits. Later in the inning Ndungidi walked, Adam Shorsher singled, and Teller singled to make the score 11-4.
Mike Henry picked up his first win in four tries on the season going five innings giving up seven hits, one earned run while walking four.
Brinkley going two-for-two with two runs batted in extended his hitting streak to 18 games while Drew Miller going one-for-two with a run scored extended his on base streak to 19.
Geoff Freeborn from the Vipers bullpen had a solid outing going an inning and two thirds giving up two hits while striking out two.
