An error by shortstop Nelson Castro led to two unearned runs being the difference in a 4-2 Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks victory over the Calgary Vipers at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The game was tied at two in the eighth inning when on a groundball by Mike Just, Castro overthrew first base and Just wound up on second base. The Redhawks second baseman later came into score the eventual winning run. The loss spoiled a Tom Lyons strong outing after he came into the game in the second inning replacing injured Calgary starter David Manning. Lyons went six innings giving up only two runs while striking out one.
The Redhawks opened the scoring in the second inning with Lyons fresh into the game with three straight singles by Ruben Salazar, Clint Johnston, and Brian Munhall bringing in the game's first run. Darryl Lawhorn followed with a double cashing Munhall to make it 2-0.
In the fourth inning Jason Colson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Colson moved to second on a balk, third on a Drew Miller fly ball, and scored on a passed ball to cut the lead in half.
An inning later in the fifth Jorge Tang led off with a single, moved to second on a Manabu Kuramochi sacrifice bunt, and scored when Darryl Brinkley extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a RBI single.
With the game tied at two in the eighth and one out with Just on second base, Ryan Klatt hit Tydus Meadows and Geoff Freeborn came into the game for Calgary. On the first pitch, Richard Austin stroked a single to right field scoring Just and giving Fargo-Moorhead the 3-2 lead. One batter later, Salazar hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Meadows and push the lead to two.
The Redhawks bullpen of Jason Schutt, Adam Rowe, Brandon Harmsen, and Nate Cotton shut down the Vipers in the final four and two third innings allowing just three hits and striking out five batters.
Randy Waite had another strong outing from the Snakes bullpen going an inning and two thirds giving up just one hit.
