NINTH INNING COMEBACK EXTENDS VIPERS LEAD

The Calgary Vipers scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to come from behind and beat the Edmonton Cracker-Cats 7-6 at Foothills Stadium in front of the second largest crowd in Vipers history at 3950 fans. Edmonton led the game 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh but single runs in the seventh and eighth, along with a Drew Miller two run walk off double in the ninth keyed the Snakes victory. Calgary remains in first place in the North Division, now a game and a half up on both Winnipeg and Fargo-Moorhead.

Darryl Brinkley on the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning hit his eighth homerun of the season to give Calgary the early 1-0 lead.

The Cracker-Cats tied the game and took the lead in the fourth with a Kyle Nichols solo homerun and a RBI double by Sambu Ndungidi to score Chris Becker.

The Vipers tied the game at two in the fifth on a RBI groundout from Nelson Castro, scoring Manabu Kuramochi who went three-for-three in the game, scoring two runs, and walking once.

In the top of the sixth Edmonton's Nichols and Becker hit back to back doubles to make it 3-2. Later in the inning Rob Recuenco plated Becker with a fielder's choice and George Sandel singled home Recuenco to give the Cats a three run lead.

Calgary got one run back in the bottom half of the inning with Mitch Evans scoring on a Aaron McEachran groundout.

That run was taken right back by Edmonton in the seventh as Becker drove home Ryan Radmanovich who had singled and took second on a wild pitch to make the score 6-3.

The Snakes started to chip away in the bottom of the inning with Kuramochi cashing in on a Brinkley's second RBI of the night.

In the eighth Calgary closed the lead to one run when Brinkley walked with the bases loaded to bring in Evans.

With the score 6-5 Edmonton, Carlos Duncan and Jason Colson led off the ninth with back to back singles. The dramatics followed with one out and the runners still at first and second Miller sent a line drive down the left field line that easily scored Duncan to tie the game and Colson also came around all the way from first base to win the game. The victory is the fourth time this season the Snakes have won after trailing heading into their final at bat.

Geoff Freeborn continued his fantastic season pitching the final two innings for the win. Freeborn faced the minimum six batters while striking out two of them to drop his ERA to under one.
