The Calgary
Vipers got
thumped 12-5
by the
Schaumburg
Flyers at
Alexian
Field in
Schaumburg,
Illinois.
The Flyers
hit four
homeruns and
handed
Calgary
starter Evan
Greusel his
first loss
of the
season. With
four games
left in the
first half
the Vipers
division
lead shrinks
to one and a
half games
over the
Fargo-Moorhead
Redhawks.
The Vipers
had the
Flyers on
the ropes in
the first
inning
putting the
first three
men on.
Darryl
Brinkley and
Drew Miller
singled and
Carlos
Duncan drove
in Brinkley
with a base
hit to give
Calgary the
1-0 lead.
But with two
men on Jason
Colson
struck out
and Kyle
Nichols
grounded
into an
inning
ending
double play.
Right away
in the
bottom of
the first
Schaumburg
answered
with Mike
Rohde and
Christian
Snavely
hits. Pat
O'Sullivan
then crushed
a three run
homer for a
3-1 lead.
In the
bottom of
the third
Kyle Lyon
knocked in
Sullivan
with a
single and
Billy Malone
singled home
Dario
Delgado to
make the
score 5-1.
An inning
later the
Flyers were
back at it
with singles
from David
Hoffman and
Demetrius
Heath. Rhode
followed
with a walk
to load the
bases and
O'Sullivan
brought in
two more
runs with a
single.
Delgado
capped the
three run
inning with
a sacrifice
fly to give
Schaumburg
the 8-1
lead.
In the fifth
Kevin Price
reached on a
error and
scored on a
Mitch Evans
RBI single.
Evans later
would scored
on a Miller
RBI
groundout to
cut the lead
to five at
8-3.
After Heath
scored in
the sixth
inning on a
error,
O'Sullivan
and Delgado
smacked back
to back
homeruns to
give the
Flyers a
11-3 lead.
Another
blast was
smacked in
the seventh
by Malone to
cap the
Schaumburg
scoring at
12-3.
In the ninth
the Vipers
plated two
thanks to a
Duncan run
batted in
and Brinkley
scoring on a
wild pitch
to close the
game at
12-5.
