VIPERS STUMBLE IN PENNANT CHASE

The Calgary Vipers got thumped 12-5 by the Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Illinois. The Flyers hit four homeruns and handed Calgary starter Evan Greusel his first loss of the season. With four games left in the first half the Vipers division lead shrinks to one and a half games over the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.

The Vipers had the Flyers on the ropes in the first inning putting the first three men on. Darryl Brinkley and Drew Miller singled and Carlos Duncan drove in Brinkley with a base hit to give Calgary the 1-0 lead. But with two men on Jason Colson struck out and Kyle Nichols grounded into an inning ending double play.

Right away in the bottom of the first Schaumburg answered with Mike Rohde and Christian Snavely hits. Pat O'Sullivan then crushed a three run homer for a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third Kyle Lyon knocked in Sullivan with a single and Billy Malone singled home Dario Delgado to make the score 5-1.

An inning later the Flyers were back at it with singles from David Hoffman and Demetrius Heath. Rhode followed with a walk to load the bases and O'Sullivan brought in two more runs with a single. Delgado capped the three run inning with a sacrifice fly to give Schaumburg the 8-1 lead.

In the fifth Kevin Price reached on a error and scored on a Mitch Evans RBI single. Evans later would scored on a Miller RBI groundout to cut the lead to five at 8-3.

After Heath scored in the sixth inning on a error, O'Sullivan and Delgado smacked back to back homeruns to give the Flyers a 11-3 lead.

Another blast was smacked in the seventh by Malone to cap the Schaumburg scoring at 12-3.

In the ninth the Vipers plated two thanks to a Duncan run batted in and Brinkley scoring on a wild pitch to close the game at 12-5.
