SNAKES SLUG MAGIC NUMBER DOWN TO TWO

The Calgary Vipers bounced back in a big way after losing 12-5 last night with their own 12-5 win over the Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Illinois. The Vipers as a team had 13 hits and the top of the line-up produced nine runs batted in, led by Jason Colson with three. Kazu Minami gave the Snakes another quality start going seven and a third innings allowing only two earned runs while walking no one and striking out three. The victory keeps Calgary a game and a half up in the North Division with three games remaining in the first half.

Colson started the second inning by walking and was followed by Kyle Nichols with a single. A passed ball and wild pitch followed to score Colson and move Nichols all the way to third. After missing the last seven games with a hamstring injury Nelson Castro returned and hit a sacrifice fly to give Calgary the 2-0 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the inning Kyle Lyon reached on a error by Vipers' starter Minami. Billy Malone then singled and Sandy Almonte drove Lyon in with a base hit to cut the lead in half.

Calgary added another two spot in the third with Manabu Kuramochi singling to lead off the inning. Kuramochi stole second and was plated by a Darryl Brinkley double. Brinkley reached third on a passed ball and Jason Colson scored him with a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.

The scoring continued in the fourth inning with Kevin Price doubling and Mitch Evans walking to start the inning. After a Kuramochi sacrifice bunt, Drew Miller nailed a two run single with two outs. Carlos Duncan followed by striking out but reached on a wild pitch and Miller scored on a throwing error by catcher David Hoffman. Colson capped off the inning with a RBI double to cash Duncan and give the Vipers a seven run lead at 8-1.

In the bottom of the inning Christian Snavely singled, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Pat O'Sullivan RBI base hit.

The Snakes reached double digits in the sixth inning when after a Miller double, Duncan smacked his fourth homerun of the season for his 39th and 40th runs batted in and to make the score 10-2.

Dario Delgado smacked his second homerun in as many games in the bottom of the sixth.

Colson was back at it in the eighth inning after a Duncan double, singling him home for his third run batted in on the night and 40th overall for a 11-3 lead. Colson went two-for-two on the night with three runs batted in, two walks, and one run scored.

The Flyers capitalized in the eighth as Mike Rohde reached on a error by Duncan. Snavely followed with a RBI double and he was scored on a Delgado single.

Calgary added a run in the top of the ninth as Price was hit by a pitch, Evans walked, and Brinkley reached and knocked in Price with an error by centerfielder Malone for his league leading 46th RBI of the season.

Tom Lyons came in for the ninth inning and struck out the side to close out the ballgame.
