SNAKES WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT GAME

The Calgary Vipers won their sixth straight game and tied a franchise mark for consecutive wins with a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The only time the club won six straight previously was to close out the inaugural season in 2005. Chris Schutt got the start and picked up his ninth win to tie himself for the league lead in victories. The Snakes as a team also tied the Gary Southshore Railcats for best overall record in the Northern League at 37-23.

The Vipers scored the game's first runs in the top of the third inning. Jorge Tang led off with a infield single and was followed by a Mitch Evans walk. After a Manabu Kuramochi sacrifice bunt, Darryl Brinkley singled home his 59th and 60th runs batted in on the season for the 2-0 lead.

Right back came the Goldeyes though with a Scott Schade single and Max Poulin double in the bottom of the inning. Fehlandt Lentini cut the lead in half with a single and Chris Latham tied the game at two with a RBI groundout.

Calgary retook the lead in the next half inning though starting with a Kyle Nichols leadoff double. Nelson Castro sacrificed him up to third with a bunt and Tang picked up his second of three hits on the day to plate the go ahead and eventual winning run at 3-2.

In picking up the win, Schutt went six and a third innings giving up only two earned runs on six hits. The bullpen picked up right where he left off with: Ryan Olson striking out two for a shutout inning, Ryan Klatt facing two batters and recording two outs, and Tom Lyons picking up his second save of the year getting the side in order with two strikeouts in the ninth.
