GOLDEYES USE LONGBALL TO SNAP STREAK

The Calgary Vipers snapped a six game winning streak with a 11-3 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The game got out of hand after Calgary starter Jordy Alexander left with an arm injury after only two innings.
 
In the bottom of the first Chris Latham hit a solo homerun for the game's first lead.
 
The Goldeyes took advantage of new Vipers pitcher Ryan Wyland with four runs in the third inning. Max Poulin led off with a walk and Fehlandt Lentini then singled. Anton French doubled for a RBI and Latham grounded out for his second run batted in of the game. Walter Young capped off the inning with a two run shot to make the score 5-0.
 
Two more runs were added in the bottom of the sixth with Brent Metheny homering to start off the inning for one run. Jordan Lundberg followed with a single and after a hit by Scott Schade, scored on a Poulin groundout for the 7-0 lead.
 
Calgary made the game closer in the top of the seventh with Jason Colson and Kyle Nichols singling. Nelson Castro followed with a RBI double and Jorge Tang remained red hot with a two run single to close the gap to 7-3.
 
However in the bottom of the inning the game would be put out of reach. Latham hit his second homerun of the evening to start the inning. With one out Antoin Gray hit the fifth blast of the game for Winnipeg to increase the lead to 9-3. Metheny and Schade followed with walks and Poulin and French plated them with RBI singles.
 
Drew Miller with his fourth inning single extended his on base streak to a league season high of 40 games.

The Snakes return home Friday July 27th at 7:05 PM (MDT) to open a three game series against the Kansas City T-Bones. Saturday and Sunday the games are at 1:35 PM (MDT).
