VIPERS BLANKED BY CATS

The Calgary Vipers were shutout and dropped a three game series to the Edmonton Cracker-Cats with a 4-0 loss at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. The Vipers had their chances early but could not get produce five times in the first six innings with a runner in scoring position and two outs. Edmonton on the other hand scored all four of their runs on three two-out hits.

Edmonton scored the first run of the game for the third time in the series when Todd Betts leadoff with a double. Aaron McEachran doubled with two outs to score him and Kevin House singled to centerfield but Darryl Brinkley gunned McEachran out at home plate to keep the score 1-0.

The Cracker-Cats added to the lead in the third inning when Brian Munhall reached on a error by Jason Colson with two outs to extend the inning. From there Ryan Radmanovich singled and Betts walked to load the bases. Terrence McClain delivered two unearned runs with a double to right-centerfield for the 3-0 lead.

A run was added in the sixth inning with a leadoff single from House who followed it up by stealing second base. Chris Becker sacrificed him to third and with two outs and Geoff Freeborn into the game, Munhall doubled down the right field line for the four run lead.

The Vipers now head to Fargo-Moorhead for a three game series against the RedHawks. Friday and Saturday the teams play at 6:00 PM (MDT) and then on Sunday the game is at 12:00 PM (MDT). The Snakes return home Tuesday August 7th at 7:05 PM (MDT) for a three game home stand against the Schaumburg Flyers.
