The Calgary Vipers snapped a five game losing streak with a 13-7 drubbing of the Schaumburg Flyers at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The Vipers scored seven runs in the first and five more in the seventh inning for twelve of the runs. Darryl Brinkley had four extra base hits and knocked home four runs. Carlos Duncan pitched in as well with five runs batted in.
Schaumburg opened the scoring in the first inning with a Mike Rohde double and a two-out Patrick O'Sullivan RBI single for the 1-0 score.
The Vipers responded in a big way with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Brinkley started by tying the game with his 11th homerun of the year. After a Drew Miller single, Duncan hit his tenth blast of the season for a 3-1 lead. Kyle Nichols and Nelson Castro followed with walks and Mitch Evans scored them both with a two run double. Evans scored on a error and Brinkley capped off the inning by doubling home Manabu Kuramochi for a 7-1 advantage.
Brinkley picked up his third extra base hit of the game with a double to leadoff the sixth inning. A productive out by Miller moved him to third and Duncan cashed Brinkley with a sacrifice fly.
Calgary put the game away in the seventh inning with a five run frame. Nichols and Evans started by singling and with two outs Kuramochi brought in a run with a base hit. Brinkley picked up his third double of the night to score two more and give him four runs batted in. Miller walked and Duncan also doubled home two for five runs batted in on the evening and the 13-1 lead.
The Flyers mounted a big inning of their own in the eighth with a six spot. Rohde, Jimmy Hurst, and O'Sullivan all singled to load the bases. Christian Snavely knocked in two with another base hit and Billy Malone plated one with a knock. Kyle Leon capped off the inning with a three run shot to cut the lead to 13-7.
Curtis Moenter closed the game for Calgary and struck out four of the five outs he recorded.
