SNAKES SUFFER SIXTH STRAIGHT ROAD DEFEAT

The Calgary Vipers opened a six game road trip by losing 8-2 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana. With the league's best road record the Vipers have now lost six straight games away from home. In a match up of the two first half division winners the Snakes came out on the wrong end of the score and have yet to defeat the RailCats this year.
 
Calgary took the early lead in the second inning starting with a Jason Colson double. Kyle Nichols followed with a single to move Colson to third and Nelson Castro scored the game's first run with a RBI base hit.
 
In the bottom of the third inning the RailCats tied the game at one. Tanner Townsend double and Steve Haake singled him home.
 
Gary SouthShore took their first lead in the fifth inning when Haake singled, stole second, and Jose Yepez knocked him home with a base hit for the 2-1 score.
 
Colson tied the game at two in the top of the sixth with his team leading 15th homerun of the season.
 
Right back responded the RailCats though in the bottom of the inning with two runs. Eric Blakeley was hit by a pitch, Dale Mueller walked, Eric McNamee singled to load the bases and with two outs David Detienne delivered a two run base hit for the 4-2 lead. 
 
Four insurance runs were added in the bottom of the seventh by Gary SouthShore to put the ballgame away. Yepez and Jermaine Allensworth walked, Jay Pecci was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Blakeley cashed two runs with a single. Pecci also scored on the play on two throwing errors and Blakeley capped the inning coming in on a groundout.
 
This series continues Saturday August 11th at 5:00 PM (MDT), and Sunday August 12th at 1:00 PM (MDT). Tuesday August 14th, Wednesday August 15th, and Thursday August 16th all at 6:05 PM (MDT) they will play the Schaumburg Flyers. All games can be heard live online at am770chqr.com.

The Snakes then return home Friday August 17th for a Skip Work Special at 2:35 PM (MDT) against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
