The Calgary Vipers beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 7-5 at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana. The win evened the series and was the first win on the season for Vipers versus the RailCats.
Gary SouthShore grabbed the early lead in the first with Eric McNamee, Steve Haake, Jose Yepez walks, and a Jermaine Allensworth two run single for the 2-0 lead.
The RailCats added to the lead in the second inning with a Nate Price walk, a passed ball to move him to second base, a groundout to advance him to third, and a Jay Pecci single to make the score 3-0.
Calgary got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning with Drew Miller's ninth homerun of the year for the 3-1 game.
That run was matched in the bottom of the inning with Eric McNamee, Pecci, and Tanner Townsend singles for the 4-1 lead.
The game was closed to one run in the sixth after Carlos Duncan and Jason Colson singled. Kyle Nichols and Jorge Tang followed with RBI base hits to make the score 4-3.
The Vipers took the lead in the eighth inning with a Duncan homerun to tie the game. Miller and Tang followed with singles, Kevin Price was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Manabu Kuramochi walked for a run batted in. and Darryl Brinkley delivered a two run single for the 7-4 lead.
In the ninth Pecci reached on error, Townsend and Steve Haake walked, and Jose Yepez hit into a double play for a run.
Ryan Olson went three and two third innings for the win without giving up a run. Geoff Freeborn recorded the save with a scoreless inning pitched.
