The Calgary Vipers defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-2 at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana. With back-to-back wins the Vipers claimed their second three game series in a row. Kazu Minami started and lasted eight innings giving up only one earned run on just five hits while striking out three.
In the bottom of the fifth the RailCats opened the scoring when Eric Blakeley reached on a two base error by Carlos Duncan. Jay Pecci knocked in Blakeley with a base hit for the 1-0 lead.
Calgary tied the game and took the lead in the sixth inning. Darryl Brinkley doubled, Nelson Castro reached on a bunt single, Duncan drove in Brinkley with a single, and Jason Colson hit into a double play to score a run and take the lead at 2-1.
The Vipers added to the lead in the eighth inning with Brinkley walking, Castro singling, and Duncan being intentionally walked to load the bases. Colson followed with a sacrifice fly but on the relay throw in Eric McNamee tried to get Duncan at second base but threw the ball away and allowed both Castro and Duncan to score for the 5-1 game.
A run was chipped in by Gary SouthShore in the bottom of the inning with a Tanner Townsend walk, Steve Haake single, and Brett Wallace RBI base hit for the 5-2 score.
Curtis Moenter pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season.
