The Calgary Vipers lost their fourth game of a five game series 9-4 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In a game that was delayed by rain for 50 minutes saw the Goldeyes come out early and take a commanding lead. Jorge Tang had a great night for the Vipers as he hit his first homerun of the season and had three runs batted in.
Winnipeg grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Luis Alen RBI groundout.
The lead was added to in the bottom of the third with two more runs with a Brent Metheny RBI double and Walter Young RBI single for the 3-0 lead.
Calgary got a run in the top of the fourth as Nelson Castro scored on a Carlos Duncan RBI groundout.
That run however was matched by the Goldeyes in the bottom of the inning with three straight hits from Corey Stang, Max Poulin, and Fehlandt Lentini for the 4-1 game.
Another lone run was scored in the bottom of the fifth on another Alen RBI, this time with a base hit.
The Fish continued the onslaught with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded Young knocked in a pair with a single and Metheny scored on a passed ball for the 8-1 advantage.
The Vipers started a comeback in the top of the seventh with two runs.
After a Kyle Nichols single Tang hammered his first professional homerun to cut the lead down to 8-3.
Another run was added by the Snakes in the top of the eighth as Castro doubled for a league high 37th time and Tang continued his solid night with a RBI single.
A final run was added by Winnipeg in the bottom of the inning to cap the scoring. Demond Smith tripled and Young knocked him in with a sacrifice fly for his fourth RBI of the game.
The Vipers now return home Wednesday August 29th, Thursday August 30, and Friday, August 31 all at 7:05 PM against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The five game series will continue on Saturday September 1 at 5:05 PM (MDT) and Sunday September 2 at 1:35 PM to close out the 2007 regular season. Tickets can be ordered by calling 277-BALL (2255).
