VIPERS, FOUR ALL-STARS PREPARE FOR FINALS

The Calgary Vipers returned home Saturday fresh off a sweep in the North Division Championship Series. The team held an open batting practice on Sunday at 4:00 PM as they waited to see who they would play in the Northern League Championship Series.

Calgary will host Gary in the first two games of the finals on Tuesday, September 11 and Wednesday, September 12 at Foothills Stadium, with both games at 7:05 PM (MDT). Tickets are already on sale at the Foothills Stadium box office or fans  can order by phone at 277-BALL (2255).

The Northern League has also announced their Post-Season All-Stars and four Vipers were named to the squad. The four nominations led the entire league as no other team had three players named. Jason Colson is the first base representative as he led the league in RBI with 89, led all first baseman in fielding, and also became the first player in Northern League history to play in all 96 games at first.

Carlos Duncan is the league's all-star third baseman finishing the season second in hits with 139, and third in both average at .350 and RBI with 82.

Nelson Castro led all shortstops in fielding, led the league in doubles, and finished with the ninth best average at .323 in being the all-star shortstop. Finally Darryl Brinkley received an all-star nominated as an outfielder.

Brinkley became the first player in Northern League history to hit .400 and he also led the league in hits with 150, runs with 88, and on-base percentage at .456. He was also second in slugging percentage at .603 and third in RBI with 82.
