The Calgary Vipers trailed 3-1 after seven innings but tied the game and went on to win 4-3 in 14 innings over the Gary SouthShore RailCats at US Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana. The win gave the Vipers a 2-1 series advantage. With a run in the top of the eighth and another in the top of the ninth Calgary sent the game into extra innings. Evan Greusel was fantastic out of the bullpen going the final six and two third innings and giving up only three hits, no runs, and striking out five.
The RailCats scored first in the bottom of the second with two runs. Nate Price doubled and scored on a Eric McNamee RBI single. After taking second on a throwing error McNamee scored on a Dave Detienne base hit.
Calgary cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth inning as Nelson Castro doubled and then moved to third and scored on two wild pitches.
However that run was matched in the bottom of the frame by Gary SouthShore as Steve Haake doubled and scored on a Jermaine Allensworth triple.
The Vipers once again closed the game to one run in the top of the eighth with a two out RBI double from Kyle Nichols. Carlos Duncan reached on an error and scored on the double.
In the top of the ninth Calgary tied the game with another run to force extra innings. Jorge Tang and Manabu Kuramochi both singled and Darryl Brinkley delivered a RBI base hit to left field.
Calgary grabbed their first lead in the top of the fourteenth inning as Castro walked, stole second, and moved to third on a Duncan groundball. Nichols scored the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
