The Calgary Vipers have announced their 2008 Golden League playing schedule. The Vipers will play 44 home games at Foothills Stadium with the possibility of one of those games being playing in Kamloops, BC as a prelude to a team in the Okanagan Valleyjoining the league in 2009. The schedule opens on Thursday, May 23 in Edmonton.
“This is the best travel and home date schedule we’ve had in our three years of competing”, said Vipers president Peter Young. “Unlike the past two seasons we play a minimum of six games every time we are on the road with direct flights from Calgary to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix and Las Vegas getting us into the southern markets with ease”.
The Vipers, with all-stars Darryl Brinkley and Carlos Duncan in the lineup will open up with a home and home series against their provincial rivals, the Edmonton Cracker-Cats. They will play fewer home dates in the first half of the season to avoid the Calgary Stampede and will finish with 18 home dates in the month of August.
The Vipers and Cracker-Cats will compete in the north division against the Chico Outlaws and Reno Silver Sox. The south division features the Long Beach Armada of Los Angeles, Orange County Flyers, Yuma Scorpions and St. George Roadrunners.
The Vipers have reduced the price of season tickets by 10% for 2008. Season tickets and 10-Game U-Pick-Em packs are available at the Vipers box office or by calling 277-2255.
