The
Calgary Vipers battled all game long but never led
once and lost 7-6 to the Long Beach Armada at Blair
Field in Long Beach, California. Three separate
times the Snakes tied up the game after Long Beach
took an early lead but the Armada walked off with
the win in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the
loss Calgary's second half record is now 14-13 and
they are 40-31 overall.
Long
Beach opened the scoring in the bottom of the third
inning with a Octavio Martinez double and Michael
Glomb run batted in single for the 1-0 lead.
In the
next half inning the Vipers tied the game at one
with a Jorge Mejia triple and a Jorge Tang RBI base
hit.
Right
back came the Armada in the bottom of the fourth
frame as Steve Moss was hit by a pitch, stole second
base, and scored on a Brett Flowers RBI base knock.
Following a Martinez hit by pitch, Dan Trumble made
the score 3-1 with a RBI single.
The
Snakes got a run back in the top of the fifth inning
as Darryl Brinkley plated Patrick Arlis with a RBI
base hit for the 3-2 score.
That run
was matched in the bottom of the inning as Moss
scored on a Norm Hutchins RBI double to retake the
two run lead at 4-2.
Calgary
tied the game at four in the next half inning with a
Arlis walk and Nelson Castro's 12th homerun of the
season.
The
scoring continued in the bottom of the sixth frame
as Martinez reached on a fielding error by third
baseman Travis Drader, Trumble doubled, and Glomb
knocked in both with a double to give back Long
Beach the lead at 6-4.
In the
top of the seventh Brinkley singled, stole second
base, and scored on a Tang RBI base hit for the 6-5
score.
Once
again the Vipers tied the game in the top of the
eighth inning with a Arlis double and Carlos Duncan
RBI single for the six-all game.
The
Armada walked off with the victory in the bottom of
the ninth as Moss singled, Ryan Lehr walked, and
Flowers delivered a game winning RBI single for the
7-6 victory.
This
series continues Wednesday August 13th and Thursday
August 14th with both games starting at 8:05 PM
(MDT). Nate Melek (5-4) and Joe Sergent (3-2) will
take to the mound for these two games. The Snakes
finish off the road trip against the Orange County
Flyers Friday August 15th at 8:05 PM (MDT) and play
a double-header Saturday August 16th starting at
6:05 PM (MDT).
Calgary
returns home Monday August 18th at 7:05 PM (MDT) to
open up a nine game home stand against Hall of Famer
Gary Carter and his first half South Division
Champion Orange County Flyers.
