The Calgary Vipers offence
exploded to remain
undefeated against the
Joliet Jackhammers at Silver
Cross Field in Joliet,
Illinois. The Vipers put up
six runs in the third inning
en-route to a 12-5 victory.
Calgary opened the
scoring in the very first
inning after Jason Colson
and Mitch Evans runs batted
in to take a 2-0 lead.
The Vipers added to the
lead in the third after RBI
from, again Colson and
Evans, and also Kevin Price,
Manabu Kuramochi, and two
from Darryl Brinkley. After
two and a third innings it
was 8-0 for Calgary.
Joliet finally got on the
score board in the fourth
inning, scoring four runs on
Tim Hutting and Chris Brown
RBI singles, plus a fielding
error allowing two other
runs to score, closing the
gap to 8-4.
The Snakes grabbed two
runs back though in the
fifth thanks to Kuramochi
and Brinkley's second and
third runs batted in
respectively.
The two teams then traded
off runs in the bottom of
fifth and top of sixth with
Derek Nicholson and
Kuramochi driving in a run a
piece.
Calgary added to the lead
in the eighth when Kevin
Price drove in his second
run in his professional
debut.
Brinkley and Kuramochi
were the stars of the game
going two-for-five with 3
RBI, and four-for-five with
three RBI respectively.
Colson and Evans also had
two RBI a piece.
Chris Schutt picked up
the win in his Vipers debut
and the bullpen was once
again solid with Randy Waite
and David Manning going four
innings of shutout baseball
striking out four.
The four game series
concludes Sunday afternoon
at 1:05 pm (MDT). The Vipers
then head to Fargo, North
Dakota for three games
against the RedHawks. All

The home opener at newly
refurbished Foothills
Stadium is set for Friday,
May 25 when the Vipers will
celebrate the 100th
anniversary of professional
baseball in Alberta.
